Things that are Beautiful

The hair on my head, which is brown and blond
is beautiful.
Behind my right ear and above me left elbow
where I have a tattoo or two.
Not going to school.
Not having a plan.
Having no balls
either but dreaming like I do.
A six pack
that I stopped keeping maintenance on.
Being madly in love
with everything, with everyone.
Being madly in love
but not like the old days.
Being madly in love
but he doesn't love the parts of you that you love to.
Being only 21
and thinking it's all over.
Being madly in love.
And not having the balls to
Try something else.

My boyfriend thinks Valentine's Day is stupid.

"Valentine's Day is stupid, boys should give their girlfriends chocolate every day!" said Jonathan, forgetting how quick-witty and candy-loving his is girlfriend is."You're pretty behind," she said. And then there was candy.
And at one point mashed potatoes.

This is what I did for him:
[because i love being crafty--not necessarily because i love him ;)]

I found a giant book of wine that went on for about 100 pages about the wine in each region of the world. I cut out the German section for my German, wine loving Jonathan.
[I don't mean wine-loving like a lush, I mean he likes to be fancy.]

He actually skimmed the pages, and wanted to read. I just liked the pictures.
Mr. Wantstolearnthings always wants to learn things.

On the boring, ugly, pictureless page, I sewed a little pocket.

Inside the little pocket is a recipe for some lovely German-Wine-Drink.
It sounds spicy. He seemed pumped to try to make it.
He always wants to make things!
:D

The last page screamed for a little love note to be scribbled on it. It was so fun to make this little book!

...I also enjoyed baking and frostinging cookies all day.
THEY'RE SO BRIGHT!
This was the stack I gave to Jonathan.
These fish are kissing.

Are you just tickled by that or what?

From my Dad to my Mom

The day before Valentine's Day my mom got a dozen roses with this little card.

He followed through with heart shaped candy.
I just thought it was adorable.

What a motto to live by:

Flowers today!
Chocolate tomorrow!

[seize this day and then live forever]

:)
what fun

Mustache/Must Craft

Once upon a time 2 plain Jane sweetheart girls went to Java's for their Hearts and Crafts show.
They were given this Gift.
The Mustache.

These stunnin' upper lip queens, these former plain ladies felt the need to share their new found happiness with everyone they encountered.
Seriously, just look at her, and fall in love.

Look at him!

Look at Kristine!

Look at Kathy!

The moral of the story is: I'm stunning with a mustache.
What an amazing day.

Confessions (because I'm so Catholic)

-I don't know how anything technological works.

-I ramble on

-I'm making mac n cheese instead of running

-I'm the world's WORST girlfriend

-I'm not going to let my boyfriend find out

-I want to bake Valentine's Day cookies, but probably won't

-I used to go out for breakfast here

-I still hate the sound of gum being chewed

-I chewed gum twice this week

-I love this lovey God whom I love

-I confuse faith with hope sometimes

-I understand that everything always works out, I've seen it a million times and I love it!

-I panic anyway

-If I new how my camera or this blog worked, I'd be uploading pictures instead of making lists!

Valentine Progress

I haven't been as diligent as I meant to be with this quilt so far, [SURPRISE!] but it's getting there!

My new favorite why to start is with a giant piece of favorite material//
and then I just work and add around it.

These tiny squares are about an 1 inch by 1 inch.

I'm getting excited about where this is going even though I don't really have a plan yet.

I just really can't wait to place this heart in there somehow!
I have no idea how I'm going to battle these round edges
--probably by squaring them off--
but this is a Valentine quilt, I HAD to add a heart.

Songs in my head

Lion's Mane
by
Iron&Wine

{I am in love with this song, and not much else.}

run like a race for family
when you hear like you're alone
the rusty gears of morning
and faceless, busy phones
we gladly run in circles
but the shape we meant to make is gone

and love is a tired symphony
you hum when you're awake

and love is a crying baby
mama warned you not to shake

and love's the best sensation
hiding in the lion's mane

so i'll clear the road, the gravel
and the thornbush in your path
that burns a scented oil
that i'll drip into your bath
the water's there to warm you
and the earth is warmer when you laugh

and love is the scene i render
when you catch me wide awake

and love is the dream you enter
though i shake and shake and shake you

and love's the best endeavor
waiting in the lion's mane

Feb U Warey

A few days (or perhaps weeks) ago I took a picture of some cute fabric that made me think of Valentine's Day.
I also took pictures of Valentine Heart Cakes...
I was inspired.

Suddenly it's February.
AND I AM DETERMINED TO PUMP OUT A VALENTINE'S DAY QUILT.
Which means I want to start a quilt today and finish it by Valentine's day.
14 day challenge.
Totally do-able, but is is ADD resistant?

\/ These are my fabric piles. \/

They're Valentiney because they're red/pink/white/flowery/polka-dotty/and one even has tiny hearts!

I think this one is super ugly, but I want to use it so bad.

This fabric is my absolute favorite, ever! I got it FOR FREE when I was in NYC. We stumbled across a fabric store (that was amazing) and that was putting on a seminar. We didn't have time to learn, but I was invited to steal fabric.
Who would ever try to get rid of this?

After being touristy and wandering around China Town's fabric shops all morning, we crashed into Central Park. We needed a serious nap. So I unfolded my new fabric on a steep hill, under a massive tree, and we climbed into our free+pretty bed and slept with strangers
all around.

I'm pretty sure they could see up my dress.

Either way this giant chunk of fabric was a God-sent nap facilitator.

And I'm thinking...
Maybe since the main fabric of this quilt has Jonathan memories attached to it...
and because this is a Valentine's Day quilt...
maybe I should build it for him?
I just don't know that we're at the MakingYouAQuilt point in our relationship.
It's only been about 7 months...
We just reached the HoldingHandsInPublic point.
He has already slept on this fabric...maybe he should just have a reason to continue sleeping on it?
